DUBAI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The Dubai Statistics Center on Wednesday released results of labor force survey, saying Dubai had an unemployment rate of 0.5 percent last year, lower than the global average, United Arab Emirates (UAE) state news agency WAM reported.
"The results of the Labor Force Survey 2017 reflect the flexibility and strength of Dubai's economy, which has a high employment rate in various sectors," said the report quoting Arif Al Muhairi, executive director of the center.
In Dubai, total employment reached 2,778,000 in 2017, of which non-resident workforce (workforce residing outside Dubai) totaled over 700,000, said the survey.
Over the last three years, Dubai's labor market has added an average of 110,000 people annually to its resident workforce.
Only two percent of Dubai's GDP are based on oil, according to the UAE ministry of economy, as 90 percent of Emirati oil is located in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi. Dubai's main economic pillars are trade, logistics, tourism, civil aviation, construction and real estate.
