SOFIA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian customs at the Danube Bridge checkpoint near Vidin at the border with Romania have seized 7,200 liters of alcohol, declared and packed as coconut milk, officials said Monday.
The illicit cargo was found in the early hours of Friday in a lorry with Bulgarian registration traveling in the direction of Western Europe, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said in a press release.
Upon opening one of the sealed cans, the customs officers discovered that the "coconut milk" was actually colorless alcohol-smelling liquid, the NCA said.
"By measuring with a densitometer the high alcoholic degree of the liquid was confirmed -- 96.8," the NCA said.
Samples for laboratory analysis were taken, it added.
According to its annual report, the NCA seized 148,300 liters of alcohol in 2018. In two of the cases, 860 liters were packed as disinfectant and another 430 liters as apple juice respectively.
