SOFIA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian customs at the Danube Bridge checkpoint near Vidin at the border with Romania have seized 19,360 liters of alcohol, the National Customs Agency (NCA) said Tuesday.
The liquid was found on Sunday evening in a truck, which was declared to be carrying professional floor cleaner from Bulgaria to the Netherlands, the NCA said in a press release.
However, inspection with a densitometer revealed that the 88 plastic containers with a capacity of 220 liters each were in fact filled with 96.6-degree ethyl alcohol, the NCA said, adding that the alcohol was confiscated.
Bulgaria has been an ideal transit for alcohol traffickers due to its location. This March, the customs at the same checkpoint have seized 7,200 liters of alcohol, declared and packed as coconut milk.
According to NCA's annual report, Bulgarian customs seized a total of 148,300 liters of alcohol in 2018.
