COLOMBO, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Colombo Port handled 482,910 containers in April, up 9.1 percent from a year earlier, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) said in a statement on Tuesday.
Transhipment volumes also had risen 8.6 percent in April, the SLPA added.
The containers at the Colombo Port are handled by the state-run Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and Colombo International Container Terminals operated by China's CM Ports and South Asia Gateway Terminals owned by Colombo listed John Keells group.
Last year, the Colombo Port set a new record by handling 7 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), recording a growth of 13.2 percent from a year ago.
The SLPA won the Ports Authority of the Year 2019 Award by the Global Ports Forum (GPF) for the second consecutive year at the GPF awards ceremony 2019. Enditem
